Biography
Kathi was born in Virginia, raised in Alabama, relocated to Florida 34 years ago, and moved to New Smyrna Beach in 2015; but, surprisingly, she still has a very distinct Southern drawl. Kathi married Jerry, her high school sweetheart and they have two grown children. Their son lives in London with his travel writer wife, and their daughter and son-in-law work in Saudi Arabia. Two grandsons are students at Auburn University in Alabama. Family get-togethers have taken them to interesting parts of the world.
As a member of the Pine Island Art Association, Kathi received many awards. A first place picture in 2011 qualified for the Southwest Florida Art Council’s Winners’ Circle at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, Florida, where it received an additional Judge’s Recognition Award. She was the first winner of the Pine Island Art Association’s poster contest, and the reproduction prints sold out before the end of the show.
Kathi is self-taught, she works in several mediums, but prefers oils because it can be manipulated until “it’s just right”. Most recently she has had fun creating 3-D paintings, which combine her painting talents with sculpture.
Many adjectives have been used to describe Kathi’s work – creative, strange, primitive (but, sophisticated), and (the adjective she likes best) “just different”.
Mission Statement
To have fun creating art, and to learn from and, hopefully, inspire others artists.
